Basra Sport City Stadium, also known as Basra International Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Basra, Iraq. It was officially opened in 2013 and has a seating capacity of 65,000, making it the second-largest stadium in Iraq after Baghdad's Al-Shaab Stadium.
The stadium is primarily used for football matches, and it is the home ground of the Iraqi national football team as well as local teams Al-Zawraa and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya. It hosted the 2013 Gulf Cup of Nations and has also been selected as one of the venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification matches.
The design of the stadium is inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian ziggurat architecture, with a jagged profile and a multi-level seating arrangement. The structure also incorporates modern technology and facilities, including a retractable roof, VIP lounges, and a wide array of amenities for the spectators.
